It gives you a thrill that you can’t find in any other hobby or sport. Salmon are great targets for fishing because they can come in such big sizes and are delicious as well. British Columbia, Canada has established its name as one of the best places for catching salmon. We aren’t just talking about regular salmon here, but trophy salmon. To make sure that you get a winning catch the next time you’re in British Columbia.
There are five different types of Pacific salmon king/ chinook, pink/humback, red/sockeye, silver/coho and chum. Pink are the smallest of all five and chum is the least sought after. If you are looking for a big catch then you’ve probably got your heart set on either king salmon or silver salmon which can go.
Since salmon journey to their spawning places at just about the same time every year, it can be all about timing. If you come at the right time then you increase your chances of getting a big catch. Late June to mid September are the best months to be making your way to British Columbia to fish for these two varieties.
Making sure that all sea life remains protected, British Columbia like other provinces in Canada has a set of regulations for you to follow. The number one thing that you will want to be aware of is the fishing limit. Depending on the area that you will be fishing in there will be a set limit according to the variety of fish you catch.
Like any other fishing district British Columbia has its own set of rules and regulations for you to follow if you’re going to be fishing there. This ensures that all marine life remain protected. The first thing that you will need to know is the fishing limit for each type of fish. Different areas have different limits for specific fish varieties.
If you want to keep the salmon that you catch (which I’m sure you will) then don’t forget to get a salmon conservation stamp as well. This will allow you to keep the salmon that you catch, though there is a limit. It is usually four for non tidal areas.
You will surely want to let friends and family taste your catch. If you aren’t transporting your salmon whole, check for packaging services. Most lodges or resorts will be more than happy to help you with this.
